The compact 20-channel amplifier unit consists of two 10 channel circuit boards. Each channel contains a low noise linear gain stage (32 dB), a high-pass equalizer (to flatten the frequency response) and a discriminator that outputs a standard current mode logic (CML) signal. RF connectors allow for direct plug-in of this 20-channel amplifier into the 20-channel G3PO vacuum feedthrough of the cryogenic system. This method of connection eliminates input cables that would potentially be susceptible to electromagnetic interference (EMI). Each of the 10-channel amplifier boards includes a standard QSE interface for differential twin-coaxial ribbon cables for direct interface to an FPGA. The whole unit, including the metal encasing, has dimensions of 55 × 30 × 58 mm3 and weighs 0.38 kg. Its power consumption is 4 W, operating from a single 3.3 V power supply. Together with the on-chip driver and the stripline ribbon cable, this interface amplifier has proven data transport from the ADC chip to the FPGA at 8 Gbps per channel.
