First-Ever New York Superconductor Summit Creates Excitement in the Technology’s Encomic Potential for the state

February 23, 2011Elmsford, New York (January 25, 2011)—Hypres, Inc., the Digital Superconductor Company™ and developer of the Digital-RF™ product line, has named John Levy to its board of directors. Mr. Levy has more than 30 years of technology operations and financial experience, and was a founding partner of L Capital Partners, a more than $160 million early stage venture capital fund focused on advancing companies that feature the potential to bring groundbreaking products to market.
“John brings to our board outstanding technical savvy and extensive financial expertise in the key markets we’ve targeted for growth,” said Richard Hitt, Hypres CEO and board member. “We are pleased to have him join our team and look forward to benefiting from his experience in the commercial wireless and medical imaging markets—areas we anticipate much activity in the coming years.”
At L Capital Partners, Mr. Levy led investments in the technology sector with particular focus on semiconductors, signal processing, and mobile communications. In 2010, Mr. Levy became Chairman of BioLite, a distributed energy company focusing on markets in the developing world. Mr. Levy also has served as a partner in the Shalom Equity Fund, a seed stage, technology oriented fund operating in the United States and Israel. He also has served as founding CEO of ePlanet, a computer vision company funded by Interval Research Corp., a Palo Alto-based think tank sponsored by Paul Allen and Intel Corp. Before that he was a general partner of Ariel Securities Corp., a NASD-licensed broker/dealer specializing in venture capital and media-based investments.
Mr. Levy serves on the board of the Cathay Investment Fund, a private equity fund investing in mainland Chinese businesses, and served on the boards of WiSpry, HiGTek, OnPATH Technologies, VisionSense, Peek (US and India), Simparel, Evogen, Adjungo Networks and Ovex Corp. In addition he was an adviser to Tseng Laboratories and Advanced Medical Imaging. Mr. Levy received an AB from Amherst College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Hypres also appointed highly experienced commercial wireless industry executives James K. Brewington and David M. Poticny as strategic board advisors. With more than 70 years of combined experience, Mr. Brewington and Mr. Poticny bring to Hypres extensive expertise in wireless infrastructure, products, services, spectrum utilization, and delivering new technologies to market.
Mr. Brewington is a veteran of the global communications market with more than 40 years of industry experience at AT&T and Lucent Technology. He served as president of the Lucent Wireless Business and the Developing Markets Group. Mr. Brewington was responsible for all wireless mobility products and services, global wireless development, product architecture, project management, and business and product management. He also held various executive management positions in the telecommunications industry, including overseeing Bell Telephone Wireless Laboratories.
Mr. Brewington serves on the boards of the Kopin Corporation and Sonus Networks, and is an advisor to several technology startup companies. He earned an MBA from Seattle University, a master’s degree from Stanford University Sloan Fellows Program, and a bachelor’s degree from College of Idaho.
Mr. Poticny has more than 30 years experience in information technology and telecommunications. During his career, he has been involved in all aspects of the wireless industry, including development, manufacturing, product management, sales, and customer support. He is a co-founder of All Purpose Networks (APN), LLC, formed the System Solutions Consulting Company, LLC, that provided consulting services to AT&T Wireless, and other clients around the world.
During his career, he has held senior leadership positions with a variety of companies including serving as president of Lucent Technologies, Europe, and executive vice president at NextWave Broadband. He is currently an advisor to a number of startup and early stage companies. He earned an MBA from Loyola University and a BSEE degree from the University of Michigan.
