FPGA Engineer, Digital Signal Processing
This position works closely with superconductor IC design and test engineers in the laboratory to design and implement digital signal processing functions, with emphasis on FPGA programming. Develop software for data acquisition and processing, including graphical user interfaces for HYPRES products.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in FPGA based design and development using VHDL including simulation, synthesis, timing closure, and design verification
- Experience with Xilinx tools, devices (Spartan series), and Mentor Graphics Modelsim tools
- Experience in testing and troubleshooting of FPGA based boards
- Experience with firmware development
- Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Successful execution of ASICs from product definition to production release
- Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers or senior engineers from different fields
- Experience with RTL, Verilog, System Verilog, synthesis, full chip floor-planning, P&R, formal verification, clock tree insertion and timing closure
- Experience with DSP hardware implementations on ASICs (preferred but not mandatory)
- Familiarity with superconductor integrated circuit design (preferred but not mandatory)

Educational Requirements:

Integrated Circuit Designer
Responsibilities:
Performing design and layout of superconductor digital and mixed-signal circuits.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Ph.D. or MSEE
- More than five years’ experience
- Proficiency in computer-aided design tools, such as CADENCE
- Experience with either analog RF circuit design or high-speed digital circuit design
- Familiarity with Rapid Single Flux Quantum logic
- Laboratory experience in evaluation of high-speed circuits
Mechanical Engineering Intern
Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the assembly of products, most of them highly advanced and precise cryogenic equipment and electronic instruments, based on instructions and assembly drawings (SOLIDWORKS)
- Working with existing SOLIDWORKS designs to be able to extract information on assembly blocks and components
- Placing machining orders for components with third parties
- Checking received orders from third parties against the SOLIDWORKS drawings for manufacturing errors
- Participating in various stages of product development, such as brainstorming, design modification and quality assurance testing
- Providing general assistance around the electronics lab, assembly shop, machine shop and test facility
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or a minimum of five years’ relevant professional experience
- Proficiency with using SOLIDWORKS
- Ability to read/interpret sketches/drawings/3D models
- Ability to produce sketches/drawings of ideas/concepts
- Experience with physically assembling products or prototypes from parts as per instructions and/or assembly drawings using common work shop tools (e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers, hex keys, etc.)
- Experience designing parts for and using a 3D printer
- Experience in operation and maintenance of a CNC machine
- Experience working with electronics and use of common electronics shop tools
- Experience using common machine shop equipment and training in basic machine shop safety
- Any experience with high precision machining/devices, vacuum systems, or cryogenic applications are not expected but considered a big plus

Senior Cryogenic System Engineer
We will consider entry-level applicants for these two technical positions. All hirees will receive special training to perform the duties this job entails.
Responsibilities:
- Building cryogenic packages for integrated circuits
- Providing project leadership within the engineering team
- Assisting HYPRES staff as needed
- Master’s Degree or Ph.D in a relevant discipline (highly preferred)
- Experience working on government-funded projects (highly preferred)
- Experience writing engineering requirement documents, and defining/refining product value propositions (highly preferred)
- A relevant degree in engineering or computer science
- Hands-on experience in mechanical and electronic design, prototyping and testing
- A proven track record working with cryogenic systems
- Knowledge of cryocoolers, magnetic shielding and grounding
- Knowledge of low-noise and high-speed electronics
- Project leadership experience within engineering teams
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills working across departments and disciplines

Principal Member of Research/Technical Staff, Senior Scientist
Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:
- Working with project teams to define the generation of design specifications and requirements
- Developing architecture and executing the plans
- Maintaining involvement in all phases of design, including:
- RTL implementation

Internship Opportunities
HYPRES offers exciting opportunities for students interested in starting careers in the field of superconductor electronics design, fabrication, testing and cryogenic system integration.
Interns work side by side with HYPRES scientists and engineers. Company officials work closely with the educational institute to ensure the students reach their goals, develop skills and acquire valuable experiences. If HYPRES finds a research area of mutual interest, the company will consider establishing a longer-term arrangement with the university to allow the student use of the company’s facilities to conduct research toward his/her degree.
